Ring Type Joint Planisteel RTJ K

Composition

Available Styles of Ring Type Joint Gaskets Planisteel RTJ K:

  • R  in accordance with ASME B16.20 - API 6A

  • Custom RTJ

Characteristics

This is a specially engineered gasket for use with flanges that use a ring-joint groove, commonly called RTJ flanges.

The main features of the product are as follows:

  • RTJ K incorporates a monitoring passage that allows the gasket seal to be tested or continuously monitored. The gasket is designed so that the primary and secondary sealing surfaces of the RTJ flange can be individually or jointly verified to ensure perfect tightness.

  • The service temperature and pressure, as well as the corrosion resistance of the gasket, depend on the selected metallic material.

Applications

Ring Type Joint Gaskets for RTJ Flanges

The RTJ K gasket is inserted into the flange groove like a standard Ring Type Joint gasket, but a small passage (hole) machined into the gasket body provides access to the annular cavity between the groove and the RTJ.
Through this passage, a gas or liquid can be introduced to pressurize the space between the sealing surfaces, allowing verification of the flange tightness before the system is brought to full operating pressure.

This method enables each joint to be individually tested without having to pressurize the entire line. Since the test volume is extremely small, the procedure is quick and efficient, requiring only a minimal amount of test fluid.

This approach allows for the early detection of potential leaks and significantly reduces the risk of failures during operation. It also ensures greater reliability for high-pressure RTJ connections and can be equipped with a monitoring line to periodically check the integrity of the seal over time.
