XPG E120 – eXpanded Pipe Gasket

The XPG E120 – eXpanded Pipe Gasket, made of 100% ePTFE with multidirectional properties, is designed to provide a reliable and long-lasting seal even under the most extreme conditions.

Thanks to its exceptional dimensional stability, it ensures consistent performance over time, minimizing the risk of leakage and reducing maintenance needs. It withstands a wide temperature range from –196 °C to +260 °C and pressures up to 200 bar, combining versatility and safety in a single product.

Reliable sealing, versatility, and safety in all conditions

The XPG E120 – eXpanded Pipe Gasket represents a unique and universal solution to ensure secure and durable sealing of steel, enamelled steel, and composite (FRP) flanges. Designed to simplify inventory management and reduce maintenance costs, it combines chemical resistance, conformability, and dimensional stability in one product.

Low stress indicates a gasket capable of ensuring a tight seal after applying a relatively low load — that is, lower than what is normally required to fully densify an ePTFE gasket. In this case, the minimum gasket stress (Sg min) is reduced from 21 MPa to 8 MPa.

These gaskets are particularly useful in applications involving glass-lined steel flanges. Although the surface of such flanges is relatively smooth, it is often irregular and not perfectly flat. This irregularity requires the gasket to adapt to significant variations along the flange perimeter as well as between the inner and outer diameters, in order to achieve an effective seal.

Dimensions and thicknesses

The XPG E120 – eXpanded Pipe Gasket, made of 100% multidirectional ePTFE, is available in 2.0 mm and 3.0 mm thicknesses, in ASME B16.21 dimensions for ASME B16.5 and ASME B16.47 Series A flanges, as well as in EN 1514-1 dimensions for EN 1092 flanges.

Main features

The multidirectionality is a characteristic determined by the orientation of the membrane fibers, which are expanded along two main directions known as MD (Machine Direction) and TD (Transverse Direction). This manufacturing process gives the gasket highly uniform mechanical properties, meaning it exhibits the same tensile strength when stressed along two orthogonal axes.

  • 100% multidirectional ePTFE, with a compact and low-creep structure, ensuring stable sealing performance even after long operating cycles.

  • Non-permeable barrier and conformable core, allowing perfect adaptability even to uneven surfaces or worn flanges.

  • Total chemical resistance to almost all acids, bases, and solvents (except elemental fluorine and molten alkali metals).

  • Low tightening load, ideal for FRP and GLS systems.

  • Strength and long-term durability for steel flanges and systems subjected to thermal cycles or high pressures.

Technical and application advantages

  • Effective sealing under low tightening stresses: the special processing of the structure reduces the Sgmin value from 21 MPa to just 8 MPa, ensuring tightness within a comfort zone ideal for glass-lined flanges.

  • Reliable and long-lasting seal: maintains sealing performance over time even on irregular or damaged surfaces, eliminating the need for costly rework.

  • Universal versatility: a single gasket type suitable for plants with flanges of different materials and standards, simplifying purchasing, inventory, and installation.

  • Reduced downtime costs: higher reliability means fewer maintenance operations and lower process emissions.

  • Operational safety: excellent performance under temperature and pressure variations, ensuring the protection of both the system and the environment.
